Citi India hires Richard Macfarlane

Richard Macfarlane joins Citi in Mumbai to head execution services for India.

Citi yesterday appointed Richard Macfarlane as head of execution services for its India franchise.

Macfarlane will be based in Mumbai and will report jointly to Nikhil Nagle, who heads equities for India, and Paul Sanger, who is head of execution services for Asia-Pacific.

This is a newly created role which makes Macfarlane responsible for the equity and equity derivatives sales trading and trading platforms.

Macfarlane was most recently working at HSBC private bank where he headed the investment group. At HSBC Macfarlane was based in Singapore. Before he joined HSBC, he spent 10 years with UBS, initially across Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong, and then from early 2001 in London where he ran sales and trading for Europe.

Citi is building its equities team in the region. Last week the bank appointed John Jacobson as Asia-Pacific head of equity sales. In July Citi promoted Adrian Faure to head equity for Asia-Pacific.
