White & Case adds to China practice

The US law firm has hired a new partner to beef up its China M&A and capital markets expertise.

White & Case has hired Julian Chung from Ropes & Gray as a partner in its Hong Kong office.

Chung has 26 years of experience in public M&A and equity capital markets transactions in China and other parts of Asia, including Vale’s listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.  He also recently advised on the reverse takeover of China Daye Non-Ferrous Metals Mining Limited through the injection of $900 million of copper assets.

“Julian is an ideal addition to our firm and our practice in China.  His track record in equities is a perfect complement to our debt finance practice, and will be of great additional value to our clients,” says John Hartley, executive partner of White & Case’s Hong Kong office and head of the firm’s banking, capital markets and restructuring practice in Asia.

Chung’s practice ranges from corporate and securities to debt finance and projects, insolvency and restructuring, and disputes.

“The firm’s sector expertise, especially in mining and oil and gas, offers great opportunities for collaboration,” says Chung.
