JP Morgan is making a number of senior leadership changes and hires in Asia Pacific (Apac) and New York, according to internal bank memos seen by FinanceAsia, and confirmed by a JP Morgan spokesperson.
Jonas Troeber, head of JP Morgan’s Australia team, is set to relocate to Hong Kong from Sydney to help lead the Apac Equity Syndicate team. The move was announced in a memo from Sunil Dhupelia and Peihao Huang, JP Morgan's co-heads of ECM, Apac, and Niccolo Manno, head of ECM Syndicate, Apac, seen by FA.
As a result, Justin Grimmond is replacing Troeber as head of ECM Australia. Grimmond has over 20 years of ECM experience in Australia, most recently head of ECM for Royal Bank of Canada in Sydney; a role he has had since March 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is expected to start at JP Morgan in June.
In addition, the memo said that Peter Meletis will move from his current role as executive director, institutional equity sales, in the Australia equity sales team, to join the Apac Equity Syndicate team covering Australia, reporting to Troeber and working closely with the Australia ECM team. Sydney-based Meletis will be moving to this new role in early May.
In another change, David Cameron-Smail will join JP Morgan in June as head of Southeast Asia ECM. Based in Singapore, Cameron-Smail has spent 20 years at UBS where he was a managing director and head of Southeast Asia and India ECM.
In another memo, seen by FA, Julian Peck, head of JP Morgan investment banking, wrote that Dragi Ristevski will be joining JP Morgan as co-head of general industrials and head of financial sponsors for Australia and New Zealand.
Ristevski has over 25 years of advisory experience in the Australian market. Most recently, he was head of financial sponsors for Macquarie Capital. Prior to this, he held senior coverage roles at Credit Suisse and Citi covering general industrials and financial sponsors. He will be based in Sydney, where he will report to Peck, and is “expected to commence with the firm in the middle of the year”, the memo said.
In this role, Ristevski will work alongside Seth Schwartz, JP Morgan’s co-head of general industrials in Melbourne, to spearhead the bank's industrials coverage and expand the business, according to the memo. Additionally, Ristevski will work closely with Cameron Nicholls in his existing role to deepen coverage of financial sponsors, and Sydney-based general consumer, retail, and other industrials, the memo said.
Meanwhile, in another memo seen by FA, Keith Canton, JP Morgan’s head of Americas ECM, announced that Greg Chamberlain has been appointed vice chair of technology ECM. In his new role, Chamberlain has been tasked to advise some of its top technology clients on ECM solutions, the memo said.
San Francisco-based Chamberlain has been with the firm for more than 25 years and has held numerous senior roles during his tenure in both London and San Francisco, including head of Technology ECM, head of UK ECM and head of EMEA Equity Syndicate. Chamberlain has led several of JP Morgan’s largest technology ECM transactions, the memo said.
In another change, Edward Byun will join the bank’s technology ECM team, based in San Francisco and reporting jointly to Canton and David Bauer, co-head of ECM Americas. Byun will focus on all verticals within technology and will work closely with the bank’s technology ECM managing directors Alice Takhtajan and Tegh Kapur, as well as coverage and M&A partners, the memo said.
