ING Barings strengthens equity research team

Bank appoints new heads of research for China and telecoms sectors.

ING Barings has announced the appointment of two new recruits in a bid to strengthen its research coverage of Asian equities. Peter So joins as head of China research, while Leon Chik becomes head of telecommunications research, Asia.

So and Chik will report directly to Richard Jones, head of Asia research and both will be based in Hong Kong.

So will be responsible for developing the bank's China research strategy and for expanding stock coverage in China. He was formerly at Indosuez WI Carr for four years as head of China research covering red chips, H-shares and A-shares and prior to this worked for Schroder Securities on their Hong Kong and China research team.

Chik has been brought in to provide a regional framework to support ING Barings' country based sector analysts and will work closely with ING Barings' telecom research teams in Europe. He joins the bank from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein's telecommunications research team, where he covered the Korean and Chinese markets.

"These latest research appointments serve to strengthen further our commitment to offer comprehensive research coverage in every important sector and country in Asia, and reinforces in particular our presence in the China market and the telecommunications sector," says Peter Johnson, ING Barings' head of international equities.
