Harris surfaces at Barclays

Former JPMorgan managing director, Matt Harris, joins Barclays loans team.

Ex-JPMorgan managing director Matt Harris, will join Barclays Capital on Monday, where he will be responsible for all Southeast Asian origination.

Harris's recent departure from JPMorgan followed that of his erstwhile boss, Paul Bartlett, who was co-head of credit origination for JPMorgan before he decided to leave in March this year.

Harris's hire marks a coup for Barclays, who will benefit from his experience in the region. In a related move, Barclays' director, David Matthews will be heading to the UK at the end of June and into a bigger role, as head of UK loan origination.

Matthews was responsible for loan origination from Australia and Southeast Asia, and will be missed by his counterparts in the Asian loan market for his skills as a wit and raconteur. Sources close to him say he is relishing the prospect of commuting to London each day by train from St Albans.

Harris, meanwhile, will be working in Hong Kong with Grace Tam, who heads global loans for Barclays in Asia.
