BNP Paribas promotes Eric Tran to Apac global banking chief sustainability officer

Tran will look after ESG issues relevant to both corporate and investment banking. He will relocate from Hong Kong to Singapore in the second half of the year.

Eric Tran, previously the head of sustainability for transaction banking Asia Pacific (Apac), at French bank BNP Paribas, has been appointed as the chief sustainability officer for global banking, Apac, effective immediately.

Tran will relocate from Hong Kong to Singapore in the second half of 2025, according to a March 20 media release.

In the new role, Tran will be responsible for driving environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy across global banking business lines at BNP Paribas.

“[Tran] will define the commercial approach and engage with clients on sustainability, mitigate ESG-related risks within our corporate franchise, and ensure the full integration of sustainability topics into our advisory capabilities and solution offerings,” the release detailed. ESG thematic content aggregation, sharing and anchoring through training of client-facing teams are examples.

He reports hierarchically to Krishnan Venkatesh, head of corporate clients group, Apac; functionally to Cosmin Dragan, chief ESG transition officer, global banking; and has a dotted reporting line to Aymar de Liedekerke Beaufort, head of global banking Apac.

Tran will collaborate with teams across the organisation including heads of territory in Apac, coverage and ESG teams across investment banking, and global banking ESG transition office. He will also represent global banking Apac both internally and externally on sustainability and ESG matters.

FA’s sister publication, CorporateTreasurer, recently spoke to Tran on sustainable supply chain finance products within transaction banking.
