The $1.6bn fundraise more than doubled the fund’s target size of $750m. The mid-market strategy will focus on the technology, services and healthcare sectors, prioritising India, SE Asia, Japan and Australia.

The alternative investor’s third India credit fund has closed with three times the amount of capital contributions as its next largest vehicle. Managing director and head of credit, Kachan Jain, spoke to FA about opportunity to provide credit in India’s substantial mid-market.

The deal, announced in March and finalised on October 18, strengthens EQT’s footprint in the region.

During the five-year period that EQT held its stake in GPA, the packaging firm made seven acquisitions which enabled expansion into new markets and the localisation of production, EQT director Eugene Lee explained.

The acquisition was made by the firm's EQT Mid Market Asia III strategy, forming the fund’s last investment.

The transaction, expected to close in Q4 of 2022, will bring EQT’s AUM in Asia to more than $22 billion across private capital and real assets.

The purchase will be made by EQT Infrastructure V, which in November acquired cancer care provider Icon Group for an undisclosed amount.
