Walton finds new family at Goldman

The investment banker is heading back to the barbecue zone.

CSFB’s Asian investment banking chief Alastair Walton has left CSFB in Hong Kong and is rumoured to be heading to Goldman Sachs to become its Australian head of investment banking.

If true, the Australian's decision to join Goldman will help the firm to build its investment banking effort in Australia. The Antipodean barbecue-zone has proven to be a big market for M&A transactions and his presence should help Goldman to improve its market share in Australia.

His job at CSFB will be moulded into a new, super-role by recently arrived emerging markets coverage head, Neil Harvey. Harvey will report to David Olson, the ex-DLJ banker who now runs all of CSFB’s investment banking activities in Japan, Asia and Australia.

Goldman declined to comment on Walton’s rumoured arrival.
