CITIC Capital brings in Li

Dominic Li returns to the finance sector after a four-year break.

CITIC Capital Markets Holdings, the international investment arm of the CITIC Group, has brought banking veteran and entrepreneur, Dominic Li Song-ching to the firm as its chief operating officer. In his new capacity, Li will supervise all operational aspects of the company, including the finance and IT components of the business.

Li has ended a four-year hiatus from the banking and finance sector, during which time he founded and managed his own group of IT companies that primarily served the industry. He rcently sold the IT business.

"I'm delighted to join the company's management team," Li comments. "It's a very dynamic organisation with very brisk growth. I look forward to working closely with my new colleagues and the board."

His pre-entrepreneurial days were largely spent at various senior positions in the banking and finance sector. His resume covers a 12-year period in which he was executive vice president and chief executive of the Hong Kong branch of Coutts Bank and head of private clients, North Asia for the Crosby Group.

Li's career has also included roles at ING Barings, where he was head of international securities services for Asia, plus a stint as head of private clients for Standard Chartered and head of investment banking for International Bank of Asia.

Li's views on the Chinese economy have also been widely published and he has held research roles with Data Resources Canada and the World Bank. His hiring follows CITIC Capital's recent appointment of Wang Jun as chairman.
