Barclays names James Lin Taiwan country manager

Formerly Cosmos Bank's chief risk officer, Lin was also the first Taiwanese national to serve as BofA's country manager in the bank's 42-year history on the island.

Barclays has appointed James Lin as country manager for Taiwan. He will be responsible for managing relationships with regulators and senior clients, the British multinational bank announced on Friday.

Lin is replacing Cosmas Lu, who stepped down from the role at the end of last year.

Prior to joining Barclays, Lin was Cosmos Bank’s executive vice president and chief risk officer (CRO). At Cosmos for six years, he focused on risk management, helping the Taiwan bank achieve financial goals and develop its overall risk framework, according to the announcement.

Lin’s background in risk dates back to his role as CRO at Taishin Financial Holdings in Taipei, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He left Taishin in 2004 to step into managing director and country executive officer roles for Bank of America NA in Taiwan - the first Taiwanese national to be named country manager in the bank’s 42-year operating history on the island. Lin oversaw the bank’s move into Taipei 101, the world’s tallest building at the time.

“James is an extremely experienced and respected industry professional with deep roots in the Taiwan market,” said Edward Weeks, Barclays’ managing director for Asia Pacific and the person to whom Lin will report, according to the announcement.

“His background in leading successful businesses, knowledge of the local regulatory environment, and best practice in risk management puts us in great place to grow our Taiwan business and ensure that Barclays continues to be a partner of choice for our clients.”
