Allen & Overy strengthens Asian projects group

International law firm makes three appointments to its Hong Kong office.

International law firm Allen & Overy has appointed Colin Gin as senior associate alongside Amy Supangkat and Geoffrey O'Dea as associates in the Asian Projects Group in Hong Kong.

Gin joins as a senior associate from CMS Cameron McKenna where he has practised for several years in the energy, projects and construction department in the firm's London and Hong Kong offices. He specialises in infrastructure projects and public private partnerships and has been involved in various rail infrastructure, gas and power projects in a variety of jurisdictions including the UK, the USA, the Philippines and Hong Kong. Gin has practised and is admitted to practise in New Zealand, UK and Hong Kong. He also worked in Malaysia as a legal advisor on corporatisation and privatisation projects.

Supangkat joins Allen & Overy from Blake Dawson Waldron, where she was a lawyer practising as part of the firm's banking and finance team in Melbourne. She has experience working on securitisation and project finance matters including the Spencer Street Station redevelopment and the Walsh Bay residential development. In addition to English, Supangkat has strong Asian language abilities being fluent in both spoken and written Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and the Shanghai dialect.

O'Dea worked as a banking and finance solicitor at Allens Arthur Robinson in Sydney before joining Allen & Overy in Hong Kong. He has experience primarily in capital markets, project finance and securitisation and also worked in the firm's corporate group where he gained experience in M&A and equity capital markets (rights issues, buy backs and warrants). Prior to joining Allens Arthur Robinson, O'Dea was an associate to Justice Hulme of the New South Wales Supreme Court.

All three will work with Asian Projects Group partners Mitchell Silk, Grant Fuzi, Simon Black and Vicki Liu in Hong Kong and with other members of the group throughout Allen & Overy's international network.

"Colin, Amy and Geoffrey make excellent additions to the team and our capability in the Asian Projects Group," says Grant Fuzi, partner of the Asian projects group in Hong Kong. "The depth and breadth of the experience they bring to the firm along with their Asian regional exposure and language skills will undoubtedly further strengthen our position as a leading law firm in the banking and projects areas."
