ABN AMRO hires new head of China consumer banking

Soh Wah Siaw joins from HSBC to fill vacancy left by Linda Wong.
ABN AMRO has appointed HSBCÆs Soh Wah Siaw as head of consumer banking in China. She will replace Linda Wong who was promoted to China country executive last year.

Prior to joining ABN AMRO, Siaw was seconded by HSBC to Bank of Communications as a deputy general manager in charge of personal financial services and sales. HSBC owns a 20% stake in the Chinese lender.

Taking up her new position earlier this month, Siaw will be instrumental in advancing ABN AMROÆs wealth management and consumer finance business. She will also be in charge of the strategic expansion of the bankÆs consumer banking business in China.

Based in Shanghai, she will report to Wong and Jim Brown, the bankÆs head of consumer clients in Asia.

ôAs our Q107 results show, our China operations have already reached record high performance with revenues increasing by 63%. We are extremely excited about the growth potential in China and are confident that Soh Wah will take our consumer banking business to the next level,ö says Wong.

ôSoh WahÆs distinguished career and successful track-record in setting up and building consumer banking businesses in Asia makes her a valuable addition to our China team. Her recognised experience will further strengthen our already successful consumer banking strategy of bringing ABN AMROÆs global expertise and products to market while tailoring them to best serve the needs of local clients in China,ö adds Brown in a written statement.

Siaw has more than 26 years of banking experience and has spent 15 of those years with HSBC, holding a range of consumer banking roles in Malaysia and China.
