UBS has added two more people to its Japan equity research sales and trading team, following seven appointments in July.

Joseph Wrenn joins the Asia Pacific research sales desk in New York as a Japan specialist. With seven years of experience in research sales in Tokyo and New York, Wrenn will work closely with Japan specialists Shuntaro Takeuchi and Megu Murata. He will report to Simon Rebbechi, head of Asia equity sales for the US.

Wrenn joins UBS from Deutsche Bank. Prior to that, he worked for Goldman Sachs. He will start on September 14.

Meanwhile, James Churchill will join the international sales trading team.

Churchill will cover some core long-only and hedge fund clients in Asia Pacific, the UK and the US. He will report to Nick Carrigan, head of client trading and execution of the country’s equity business, effective on September 16.

He was most recently at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was a senior member of the regional sales trading team.

Both Wrenn and Churchill will be directors.

The hires follow a reorganisation in Japan. In July, six senior bankers, including four managing directors and two executive directors, left the Swiss bank’s unit in the country, according to media reports.

UBS then hired seven staff for equities sales and trading in the world’s best-performing major stock market.

The Nikkei 225, Japan’s stock index, has surged 33% this year on the back of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s economic stimulus efforts.
