Heller Ehrman hires new Asia head

The San Francisco-based law firm appoints former DLA Piper head Nick Seddon to lead its Asia practice.
US law firm Heller Ehrman has hired Nick Seddon to lead its Asia practice. He will be based in Hong Kong and replaces Jonathan Palmer, who is set to return to his antitrust and commercial disputes practice in Seattle in the early summer after three years as the firm's Asia head.

Seddon quit his previous firm, DLA Piper, late in 2007 after a three-year stint as managing director for Asia, during which time the firm aggressively expanded its regional practice, opening two new offices and ramping up its headcount. That experience should fit neatly with Heller Ehrman's strategy û the west coast firm has also been on an international growth track recently, with new offices in London at the start of last year and in Shanghai in January this year.

"Nick has a track record as a builder and we want to continue to grow," says Palmer. "We want to continue to integrate our practice across borders and to do that in a way that really mirrors our strengths in the US."

Heller Ehrman is headquartered in San Francisco and has a typically west coast focus on technology, venture capital and private equity, with complementary specialities in dispute resolution and intellectual property.
