UBS shuffles debt syndicate team

Fergus Edwards is promoted to head of debt syndicate, while his predecessor Cristian Jonsson takes on a new role as head of hedge fund sales.
Cristian Jonsson is leaving the UBS debt syndicate team to begin a new role as head of hedge fund coverage Asia at the Swiss bankÆs offices in Singapore.

Fergus Edwards, previously executive director fixed-income syndicate, will take over JonssonÆs role as head of syndicate ex-Japan, while Samuel Chan will continue working on the syndicate desk as associate director, Asian fixed-income syndicate.

In his new role, Jonsson will oversee all fixed-income hedge fund relationships in Asia. ôWe want to focus on continuing to build a team capable of offering a complete set of products and resources to an increasingly demanding client sector,ö says Jonsson.

Edwards, meanwhile, says one of the fastest growing and most complex areas of the credit business is private finance. "While this is only a part of Cristian's new role, it nonetheless requires a deep understanding of the workings of both the primary desk and the sales team. His appointment can only deepen that understanding and help us develop our leadership position further."

Jonsson will now report to Peter Najarian, head of Asia-Pacific distribution, while Edwards will continue to report to Jeff Blum, global head of syndicate. Locally, Edwards reports to Ranobir Mukherji and Nicholas Ross, co-heads of Asian DCM.
