Tsunami Education Bond a success

How money raised at our Awards Dinner on Friday will build a school in a Tsunami-afflicted area.

Our annual gala Awards Dinner raised a record amount for charity this year. Last Friday’s event saw $340,000 raised for a school project to be built in either Aceh or Sri Lanka.
FinanceAsia organized a Tsunami Education Bond, and gained the participation from eight of the region’s most successful financial institutions. These “lead managers” each contributed $20,000 to the bond and included: ABN AMRO, Barclays Capital, Citigroup, CSFB, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley.
With the addition of private donations received, a total of $340,000 has been raised for the school project. The intention is to work with Oxfam to source a suitable elementary school project, build the school and then fund it for five years. We will keep readers informed of the progress of the project on this website and in FinanceAsia magazine.
Should any individual or institution wish to further contribute to the project, they can email [email protected] with their pledge details.
Our thanks to all the private donors and banks who participated, and have shown such generosity. We hope that long after the Tsunami disaster fades from our daily consciousness this school can bring some good to the lives of children who live in one of the afflicted communities.
