New IB chairman for Credit Suisse in Australia

Previously general counsel of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, John OÆSullivan will look after senior client relationships.
Credit Suisse has appointed John OÆSullivan as chairman of its investment banking department in Australia, effective early 2008. OÆSullivan joins from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia where he has been general counsel and a member of the bankÆs executive committee since 2003.

At Credit Suisse, OÆSullivan will be responsible for transaction origination and execution as well as client relationship management and development in Australia. He will be based in Sydney and work side-by-side with Rob Stewart and John Knox, co-heads of investment banking in Australia. His team will report to Paul Raphael, head of investment banking for Asia-Pacific ex-Japan.

"[OÆSullivanÆs] expertise, successful track record and considerable relationship management skills will further strengthen Credit SuisseÆs investment banking franchise in Australia,ö says Stewart in a written statement.

OÆSullivan was a partner at Freehills and its predecessor firm in Sydney from 1983 to 2003. He is a member of the Takeovers Panel as well as the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, the Law Society of New South Wales and various professional bodies such as the Australian Corporate Law Association, the International Bar Association and the Union Internationale des Advocats (UIA).
