Citi's Shah to take on the region's richest

Citi moves Akbar Shah from the Middle East to head its mega-wealth business in the Asia-Pacific region.
Citi continues to strengthen its wealth management team in the Asia-Pacific, appointing Akbar Shah to a newly created position, head of the mega-wealth business.

Shah will be based in Singapore and will report to Kaven Leung, chief executive officer of Citi global wealth management in the region.

Shah will lead a team of private bankers to provide exclusive, customised and differentiated wealth management services to its richest clients. This category of client requires advice spanning the gamut of investment options, including increasingly alternative investments, and most private banks in the region are recognising that assembling a team with familiarity across products is often the best way to service them.

The Asia-Pacific is among the worldÆs fastest growing regions in terms of private wealth.

ôDiscussions with such clients revolve around customised solutions, especially in the areas of structured products, private equity, hedge funds and real estate,ö says Leung. ôThey arenÆt interested in off-the-shelf products. Being unique and being innovative are critical to success with this special group of clients.ö

Shah currently heads CitiÆs global wealth management business for the Middle East. He is no doubt highly familiar with servicing the ultra-rich in this position.

Shah has been with Citi for 21 years. During the course of his career, he has held several senior roles including segment head for the ultra high-net-worth business as well as head for Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.
