Patrick Siewert and Herman Chang join the private equity firm as senior directors.
The Carlyle Group has hired Patrick Siewert and Herman Chang as senior directors in Asia as it aims to further strengthen its position in the region. The private equity firm says bringing on board proven senior executives who have strong Asian operating experience and a global perspective is a key component of its investment strategy in Asia.

Siewert held a senior advisory role at Coca-Cola before he joined the private equity firm, while Chang comes from auto components manufacturer Delphi, where he has worked in various senior positions, including president of its China business.

Siewert, who has significant business-building and senior management experience in Asia, will be based in Hong Kong and will lead CarlyleÆs investments in consumer-related businesses across Asia. Chang will be based in Shanghai and will focus on industrial companies. Both of them have already assumed their new positions.

His global perspectives on industry trends, strong leadership skills and in-depth knowledge of Asian consumer businesses will provide us greater insights in our investment activities and significantly strengthen our ability to add value to our portfolio companies,ö says XD Yang, managing director and co-head of Carlyle Asia Partners, in a statement.

ôIn addition to Patrick, we are pleased to have Herman on board as senior director focusing on industrial companies. Herman is one of the most experienced managers in building businesses in China for multinational industrial companies,ö says Yang.

Siewert joined Coca-Cola in 2001 and has held various senior positions at the company since then, including president and chief operating officer for East Asia, South Asia and Pacific Rim. He was also a member of the companyÆs executive committee reporting directly to the chairman and chief executive officer. During his time with the US drinks manufacturer, he was responsible for Coca-ColaÆs operations in 33 countries, overseeing more than 10,000 employees. Prior to that he spent more than 20 years at Eastman Kodak, including a stint as Greater China chairman from 1994 to 1997.

Chang has more than 20 years of senior management experience at General Motors and Delphi, and has spent 10 of those years in Asia and China. Helping Delphi to develop its business in this region, he was one of the top managers at the auto components company in Asia and held a number of senior positions, including president of Delphi China and managing director of its Asia-Pacific operations, as well as of a global product business unit.
