Aussie debt holdings reach critical mass

Poll shows nearly 40% of Asia-based bond investors now hold a significant share of their portfolios in Australian and New Zealand dollar debt securities.

A recent survey of Asia-based investors conducted by FinanceAsia and National Australia Bank NAB shows bond buyers now see Australia as an integral part of their long-term fixed-income portfolios.

The poll of institutional investors in the Asia time-zone asked respondents to provide information on allocation strategies and indicate whether they planned to increase or decrease their exposures. FinanceAsia conducted similar surveys in 2013 and 2014.

Compared to results from 2014, this year’s survey showed a significant increase in the number of investors who reported holding more than 10% of their overall fixed-income portfolio in Australian dollar debt securities....
