- NTT DoCoMo overtook KDDI as the largest Japanese mobile phone operator in 2005 in terms of net growth in subscriptions, according to the Telecommunications Carriers Association. The group said the number of subscriptions to NTT DoCoMo increased by about 2.4 million units on a net basis - new subscriptions minus cancellations. KDDI, the operator of au phones, fell to second place with 2.3 million units in net increases.
