Noble hires top Citi banker

After 23 years at Citi, Jeremy Amias joins Noble Group as its chief operating officer for finance.

ôI love Citi, I think the job I had was one of the best in my career,ö says Amias, who spent 23 years at the bank, most recently as head of fixed-income, currencies and commodities for the Asia-Pacific region. He adds, ôI certainly wouldnÆt go to a competitorö.

While acknowledging that a move to the corporate sector from a top-notch global bank may seem odd to some, he says, ôit is a great opportunity to join one of AsiaÆs leading corporatesö. Noble, of course, is a key client of Citi's û in May, Citi was joint bookrunner (along with JPMorgan) on a $200 million convertible bond for Noble.

Amias has agreed to stay on at Citi until his replacement is named, but when he joins Noble he will be based in Hong Kong and manage NobleÆs broader finance function including corporate finance and capital markets, treasury, structured finance, accounts and financial controls including risk management. As a member of NobleÆs executive board, Amias will be expected to contribute to ôshaping business and financial strategy, and play a key role in enhancing organisational capabilitiesö according to Noble officials.

NobleÆs executive board consists of: Ricardo Leiman who is chief operating officer û commercial; Harry Banga who is vice chairman; and CEO Richard Elman.

At Citi, Amias managed one of the bank's leading businesses in Asia-Pacific - a business comprising of 950 employees in 20 offices and 17 countries. Prior to relocating to Hong Kong in 2002, he worked in London and New York. He started his career with Salomon Brothers (one of Citi's predecessor companies).
