JPM hires Indian research head

Top economist joins JPM to head up Mumbai equity research.

JPMorgan has hired Arup Raha to head up equity research and strategy in Mumbai. Raha joins the bank from UBS in Hong Kong, where he was chief economist for Asia.

"We are delighted to announce this significant hire," says Jose Linares, head of Asia ex-Japan equity research. "We are seeing tremendous interest in India from our clients globally and Arup's wealth of experience across the region will be a valuable addition to our team."

Raha will take over the role from Prabhat Awasthi, who will be re-focusing his coverage on the Indian media and telecom industries and moving to lead the regional automobiles product for Asia-Pacific.
