US-based law firm O'Melveny & Myers has hired Gordon Ng as a Hong Kong-based partner in its corporate finance/capital markets practice, according to an announcement.

Ng was previously a managing partner of Hogan & Hartson's Hong Kong office and has more than 17 years of experience in guiding clients through corporate and financing transactions in Hong Kong and China. In the past he has represented both companies and banks with regard to Hong Kong listings, M&A transactions and other financing, regulatory and compliance matters.

"With its well-established platform in China and Asia, O'Melveny is an ideal fit for me," said Ng in the announcement. "I look forward to leveraging the synergies between my Hong Kong law capabilities and practice, and O'Melveny's strong relationships with leading banks and private equity firms."

Last year, Ng advised on GCL-Poly Energy Holdings' $3.4 billion acquisition of Jiangsu Zhongneng, a transaction that was named the 2009 M&A deal of the year by ALB China and which marked Hong Kong-listed GCL-Poly's first move into the production of polysilicon and wafers for companies in the solar power industry. ALB, or Asian Legal Business, is an independent magazine dedicated to legal news, events and developments in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Asia and the international business community.

Ng is a native of Hong Kong and is admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong, as well as in England, Wales and the District of Columbia. He was designated as a leading lawyer by Asialaw for four consecutive years between 2002 and 2005.

O'Melveny was one of the first -- and remains one of the few -- US law firms licensed to practice Hong Kong law, according to its website. The Hong Kong office is part of its China practice which also has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and key commercial centres in China, and which operates as a single large integrated operation rather than as three separate offices. The firm has more than 100 professionals in its China practice, including 16 partners.

Globally, O'Melveny employs approximately 1,000 lawyers across 14 offices.
