Von Daeniken to drive Barclays Wealth business

Barclays wealth management division picks Didier von Daeniken, formerly of Credit Suisse, to drive its Asian expansion.
Barclays Wealth announced on March 13 that it has hired Didier von Daeniken to lead its transformation into a leading wealth manager in the Asia-Pacific region.

Von Daeniken joins Barclays as managing director and head of Barclays Wealth effective June 1. He brings 16 years of experience in this area and will be responsible for both strategy and day-to-day management of the business.

Commenting on the appointment, Robert Morrice, chairman and CEO of Barclays Asia, says: ôDidierÆs understanding of the wealth markets in this region is second to none.ö Von Daeniken will be based in Singapore and will report directly to Morrice.

Von Daeniken was formerly co-head of Asia-Pacific private banking at Credit Suisse.

Barclays WealthÆs global expansion has accelerated since the end of 2005. It has plans to invest $725 million in people and infrastructure between 2006 and 2009. In Hong Kong and Singapore it employs more then 100 people. Barclays has been growing the Asia business more then 20% per annum over the recent past, a rate it is confident of continuing.
