Traditional sectors dominate Asia's IPO market in May

The list of last month's IPOs in Asia was topped by two real estate IPOs in Singapore.

Traditional sectors such as real estate or energy were back on top for Asian IPOs last month. Four out of the 10 top IPOs in Asia came from traditional businesses rather than technology or healthcare.

Eagle Hospitality Trust and ARA US Hospitality Trust were the two largest IPOs, and both of them listed on the Singapore Exchange.

The charts below are compiled using data from Dealogic as of May 31.

Top 10 IPOs in terms of deal size in May

Although its $677 million deal size topped the list, the performance of Eagle Hospitality Trust has not been so impressive. Its shares have fallen about 10% since its debut in May.

The stock prices of Yixin Energy and Haitong Unitrust have flatlined since their debut in May.

Share price performance since debut in descending deal size

With the flotations of Eagle Hospitality Trust and ARA US Hospitality Trust, real estate ranks top of the sectors in Asian IPOs. But deal sizes this year remain subdued compared to May last year. Although investors are seeing more real estate IPOs, the stock prices of these companies haven't performed as some expected.
