Goldman poaches private wealth banker from Citi

Kaven Leung joins Goldman Sachs as deputy head of private wealth management Asia.
Long-time Citi private banker, Kaven Leung, will jump ship to Goldman Sachs as deputy head of private wealth management Asia, according to an internal memo that FinanceAsia has seen.

After a 21-year career at Citi, most recently as the chief executive officer of Citi Global Wealth Management (GWM) Asia-Pacific, Leung joins Goldman in a newly created position. According to the memo, Leung will be responsible for establishing and executing the firm's private wealth management business strategy in Asia ex-Japan, as well as leading the team of investment professionals in developing client relationships.

Based in Hong Kong, Leung will also manage the operations of the business. He will report to David Voon and is anticipated to start at the end of the summer.

The memo notes: "This is an important time in the growth and expansion of our private wealth management business in Asia. We are excited to have Kaven as a member of this team, and look forward to his significant contribution to our business."

Over at Citi, Deepak Sharma, who had already been serving as CEO for Citi GWM's international business, takes on the additional responsibility of CEO GWM Asia-Pacific, following Leung's departure. GWM Asia-Pacific includes two business lines û Citi Private Bank and Citi Smith Barney. Sharma is no stranger to the role having led the Asia-Pacific business for more than 10 years prior to his appointment as the CEO of the GWM international business.
