Fixed-income research poll: part 2

Hutchison Whampoa sweeps awards for best borrower in our poll of 354 fixed-income investors.
Over the month of September, FinanceAsia once again conducted its annual fixed income research poll. The poll is designed to reflect the outlook of AsiaÆs fixed-income investor community, of whom 354 voted.

The poll has several components. It seeks to analyse market participants' views on the Asian markets, views on credit rating agencies, as well as voting for the best borrowers and, of course, the best banks at producing credit research. In this second instalment we reveal who investors think are the region's best borrowers.

The results should please Frank Sixt of Hutchison Whampoa, since the company got easily the largest number of individual votes and won two categories. It was voted Hong Kong's Best Borrower with 129 votes. It also convincingly swept the award for 'Most Professional Investment Grade Corporate Borrower' with 105 votes.

Also doing well was PLDT of the Philippines. The telecom firm was voted the 'Most Professional Non-Investment Grade Corporate Borrower' with 20 votes. It also won the Best Borrower category in the Philippines with a convincing 52 votes.

The other Best Borrowers (by country) were:

China CNOOC

India ICICI Bank

Indonesia Indosat

South Korea KDB

Malaysia Petronas

Singapore DBS

Thailand PTT
