Bangladesh faces LDC graduation dilemma as businesses fear impact

Bangladeshi businesses and economists are pressing the government to defer the graduation from the UN’s least developed country (LDC) status. They argue the government needs to consider the impacts on exports, tariffs, loans and patents.

Bangladesh is scheduled to be graduated from the UN's least developed countries (LDC) list in November 2026. However, many experts believe that graduation this early will be catastrophic for the tiny South Asian national whose macro-economy has been experiencing tough times since 2022.
