TPG names new head of China

Chang Sun was previously the Asia Pacific chairman of Warburg Pincus.

Private equity firm TPG has named former Warburg Pincus investor Chang Sun as managing partner of its China business, effective immediately.

In his new role, Sun will oversee TPG’s investment activities in China across TPG Capital Asia, TPG Growth, and The Rise Fund.

Sun was most recently the managing partner of Black Soil Group, an impact investing firm he founded in 2015.

Sun has over 25 years of experience investing in China. Prior to founding Black Soil, Sun was the Asia Pacific chairman of Warburg Pincus, where he was responsible for starting the firm’s China business.

He founded two industry trade organisations – the China Venture Capital and Private Equity Association and the China Real Estate Developers and Investors’ Association.

TPG, a Fort Worth and San Francisco-headquartered private equity firm, has been actively investing in Asia for more than 20 years.
