Deacons hires Robert Woll to build private equity

Former co-head of WilmerHale’s Beijing office is moving back to Hong Kong to join Deacons’ financial services team.

Robert Woll, one of the region’s most experienced private equity lawyers, has joined Hong Kong law firm Deacons as a partner.

As part of Deacons’ financial services team, he will work alongside seven other partners and 35 fee earners, expanding his work with financial institutions, private equity firms and institutional investors in Greater China and across Asia.

“This is a great opportunity given the strength of Deacons’ platform, which fits well with my practice, and the central importance of Hong Kong in China’s ongoing financial sector reforms,” said Woll.

He joins from WilmerHale, where he was chair of the firm’s China corporate practice and co-head of its Beijing office. Woll has a strong track record in private equity fund formation and transactions in Asia, having arrived in the region in 1997 when he was a partner at Dewey Ballantine.

He went on to become managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Hong Kong office, before moving to Beijing with WilmerHale in 2007.
