Ranson demand

Simon Ranson leaves Merrill Lynch to become managing director of corporate and investment banking at Citigroup in Australia.

Six-year Merrill Lynch veteran, Simon Ranson has been hired by Citigroup in Sydney to head the corporate and investment banking division's property group. Ranson will report jointly to Alan James, Citigroup's head of investment banking in Australasia, and Mark Patterson, global head of property, based in New York.

Ranson moves from Merrill Lynch where he has held many positions, most recently as head of real estate in investment banking. During that time he advised companies such as Stockland and AMP on takeovers, and completed initial public offerings for Lend Lease US Office Trust and Galileo Shopping America Trust among others.

"We're looking to hire senior bankers in the Australian market place with exceptional track records and senior client relationships," says James. "Simon qualifies at all levels. His cross-border experience and strong domestic franchise make him a valuable member of our team."

Ranson has qualifications from the Securities Institute of Australia and holds Bachelors of Commerce and Law with Honours from the University of Queensland.
