Asia desperately needs infrastructure but lacks effective means of financing its development. As governments increasingly run larger budget deficits there is less public money to be spent on its development. Therefore innovative schemes are needed.
FinanceAsia in association with Macquarie, a leader in infrastructure advisory, management and investment, and regional law firm Allens Arthur Robinson will co-host the "North Asian infrastructure forum: finding new models for financing Asia's infrastructure needs" at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on Wednesday, 13 October 2004. The event will consider the acquisition, funding and management of infrastructure as well as outline the investment opportunities in this new asset class.
The speaker line-up includes keynote speeches from South Korea's Kim Byung-il, minister of planning and budget and Kang Dong-suk, minister of construction and transportation.
Other speakers include officials from Meiya Power in Hong Kong, Korean law firm Shin & Kim, China Merchants in Hong Kong, Datong International Power Generation in Beijing, the Korean Road Infrastructure Fund, Bouygues in Paris, MBIA and development agencies including the Asian Development Bank, JBIC and the World Bank.
