HSBC has expanded the role of its head of trade and supply chain Asia-Pacific (ex Greater China), Simon Constantinides. In his new role as regional head of trade and supply chain Asia-Pacific, Constantinides will have additional responsibility for overseeing HSBC’s trade and supply chain operations in mainland China, Macau and Taiwan.

“With China driving global trade momentum, intra-regional trade within the Greater China markets cannot be underestimated,” said Rakesh Bhatia, global head of trade and supply chain at HSBC. “Simon has been instrumental in driving our trade franchise in Asia over the past two years. His strong client focus and wealth of trade experience will greatly benefit our clients in this key region.”

In addition, Terence Chiu was appointed head of trade and supply chain for Hong Kong to replace Christopher Lewis who will relocate to New York to head HSBC’s North American trade and supply chain business.

“With more than a quarter of traders in the US viewing Greater China as the most promising region for growth, Chris’s in-depth knowledge of this region will be invaluable to US corporations looking to expand into the Asian market,” Bhatia noted.

Chiu was previously head of HSBC’s large local corporations business within its Hong Kong commercial banking arm. He also has experience in strategy and proposition and planning for the bank’s commercial banking operations in Asia-Pacific.

“Terence’s strong corporate and commercial banking background gives him a deep understanding of the Hong Kong market which will equip him to anticipate the trade finance needs of our clients in this key Asian market,” said Bhatia.

HSBC recently hired John Saunders from BNP Paribas Fortis to head its commodity and structured trade finance business in Australia. It also appointed Wei Wei Ng head of trade supply chain for Malaysia in February and Vinay Mendonca head of global traditional trade product at the beginning of the year.
