KW Logistics awards mandate to Manhattan Associates

China-based third-party logistics services and specialist business-to-consumer distribution services provider, KW Logistics, has selected a supply chain technology platform from supply chain optimisation provider, Manhattan Associates. The solution, called Manhattan Scale, will be installed at KW Logistics’ Lianhua distribution centre in Shanghai at first and then gradually rolled out to the company’s entire distribution network in mainland China. Manhattan Scale will help KW Logistics optimise inventory management and order fulfilment in addition to supporting warehouse management processes.

“Servicing the e-commerce industry presents many challenges. Different industries have different requirements for their systems,” said Zhang Qian, director of information technology at KW Logistics, in a statement. “The nature of e-commerce operations demands that the systems supporting them are able to reliably manage high volumes of stock-keeping units and can replenish inventory quickly.”

KW Logistics was established in April 2010 and operates four warehouse facilities in Shanghai. The company is looking to build additional warehouses in Hangzhou in the second half of 2011 and then continue expanding into Beijing and Guangzhou where e-commerce is becoming an increasingly important part of the local economy.

Dutch-Bangla Bank chooses mobile banking platform from Sybase

Bangladesh’s Dutch-Bangla Bank (DBBL) has selected a mobile banking platform from Sybase 365, subsidiary of mobile messaging and commerce services provider, Sybase. According to Sybase 365, only 13% of Bangladesh’s more than 160 million people have access to bank accounts. However, by using its mobile banking platform, DBBL will be able to reach the rural and unbanked population of the country of which more than 45% use mobile phones.

“Bank-led mobile banking is the standard worldwide and we hope that efforts to pioneer mobile banking will propel other banks to adopt similar services and accelerate the process of financial inclusion in other developing markets,” said Abul Kashem Shirin, deputy managing director at DBBL.

DBBL and Sybase 365 will continue to partner in Bangladesh as mobile banking develops throughout the country to provide customers with mobile airtime top-up, merchant payment and micro financing services from their mobile phones.
