Deutsche Bank hires equity research head for Korea

Deutsche Bank yesterday announced that it has appointed Jay Choi as a director and head of Korean equity research. As well as managing the bank's output of Korean equity research, he will also act as the Korea equity strategist.
 
The appointment is effective immediately. Choi will move to Seoul from Hong Kong, where he was a managing director and senior analyst for Blackstone AMN.
 
Before joining Blackstone, Choi was head of Korean technology research at Citi and an equity research analyst for Merrill Lynch in Seoul. His career began at Hannuri Salomon, where he was an associate technology analyst.
 
"Jay brings valuable experience across sell-side research and alternative trading strategies, ensuring our Korean research product continues to deliver practical insights into our coverage universe," said Tim Andrew, head of company research for Asia-Pacific, in a written statement.
 
Also new to the Korean equities team is Sanjeev Rana, who has been appointed to the position of vice-president and senior industrials analyst. He joins from Merrill Lynch's Korean operations, where he was also covering industrial stocks. He began his career as a research analyst at Samsung Electronics.
 
Two associate analysts, Chanwook Park from Macquarie Capital Securities in Seoul and Hoyer Jeong, will join the research team. Park will cover resource and construction stocks. In addition, two other associates have been given permanent jobs: Sin-Young Park who covers financials, and Stephanie Chang, who covers consumer and shipbuilding companies.
