Tong is currently a managing director at General Atlantic in Hong Kong. He has been at General Atlantic since 2000, leading investments and working closely with public and private portfolio companies in the Greater China region. Before he joined General Atlantic, Tong was with Morgan Stanley in New York.

ProvidenceÆs investments in Asia include: a 15% equity stake in Idea Cellular, a wireless operator in India with over 10 million subscribers; a $640 million commitment to Aditya Birla Telecom, a wireless communications company in India that owns the telecom license for the Bihar service area; and a 16% stake in Indus Towers, a joint venture formed by Vodafone Essar, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular to provide passive infrastructure services to various mobile operators in 16 telecom service areas.
