RBS establishes Singapore futures desk

Bank poaches ABN team to complement existing broking desks.
The Royal Bank of ScotlandÆs global banking and markets division (RBS) has opened an Asian futures desk in Singapore. To get the desk off the ground, the UK-based bank has also has poached four members of ABN AMROÆs desk to lead the business.

Chin Leng Woon has been appointed to lead the team under the title of head of futures, Asia. He will cover all aspects of marketing and trade execution, including the bankÆs electronic trading platform.

He reports to William Knottenbelt, RBS global head of futures.

At ABN, he spent nine years running the Dutch bank's futures desk in Singapore. The group also held responsibility for futures execution and clearing services. Before his ABN tenure, Woon held a similar position at NatWest Futures.

Also moving from ABN are Sally Lee Ai Lau, Marilyn Tan Seow Hwee and Koh Pin Hong. Together the four will complement the bankÆs existing broking desks in London, Chicago, Greenwich and Atlanta.

At the same time, RBS has also announced that Jay Chia and Stella Gan will join the firm in Singapore. Moving from Cargills, Chia will provide technical support and advice for the electronic trading platform in the region, while Gan will run Asian clearing services.
