New Thailand CEO for HSBC

Willie Tham moves from China to the Bangkok office of HSBC.
HSBC has appointed Willie Tham as chief executive officer, HSBC Thailand, with immediate effect. He replaces Marcus Hurry, who has taken up a new position in the United Kingdom.

Tham will oversee HSBC's Thailand operations, including corporate and institutional banking, global markets, securities services, trade finance, payment and cash management, and personal financial services.

He joined the HSBC Group in 1985 and, as a member of the international manager team, has worked in a number of locations, including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, the UK, the United States and Qatar.

In 2001, he became the area manager for Kuala Lumpur at HSBC Bank Malaysia with overall responsibility for the bank's consumer and corporate banking business in the KL region. He was appointed chief operating officer of HSBC China in November 2004 before taking up his current role.
