At the international law firmÆs Shanghai office, Simon Poh will join the partnership after working in the finance and energy sectors with a primary focus on foreign investment and mergers and acquisition (M&A) in China.
Poh has recently advised on: the establishment of the first Sino-foreign securities joint venture; the first Sino-foreign funds management joint venture (with a 49% foreign shareholding); and an agreement in respect of certified emission reduction credits in China pursuant to the Kyoto Protocol.
At the firmÆs Bangkok offices, Veeranuch Thammavaranucupt rises to the partnership. Veeranuch specialises in corporate, M&A, securities and structured finance products, including securitisation. He has recently been asked by the Thai SEC to assist in the proposed amendment to the countryÆs securitisation law.
Veeranuch first joined the firm in 2005 from Coudert Brothers and also brings experience from Freshfields in Bangkok.
In Japan, US qualified lawyer Isamu Watson is the third Asian lawyer to join the partnership. Watson specialises in capital markets transactions and has recently advised Tokyo Star Bank on its IPO as well as All Nippon Airways (ANA) on its global share offering.
In total, the three partner appointments in Asia lift the number of LinklatersÆ partnership to approximately 520 globally. The Asian announcements follow four other such promotions in the region since May 2005.
