Debt building at ANZ

ANZ hires yet another debt capital markets executive from Westpac.

In the third senior departure from Westpac this year, ANZ has appointed Christina Tonkin as head of structured debt with responsibilities for project finance, structured export finance, leasing and structured asset finance, leveraged finance, and syndications.

Tonkin will report to Cathryn Carver who also left Westpac in March this year to become ANZ's managing director of corporate and structured financing. Carver then lured Julie Hunter from Westpac and made her head of debt capital markets at ANZ. Hunter is responsible for developing ANZ's debt capital markets capabilities in securitization, bonds, private placements and structured credit

Carver says Tonkin has 15 years' experience in structured debt financing, with her most recent role being head of debt products at Westpac. "ANZ has an excellent track record in all areas of structured debt. Christina's experience and leadership will be important as we continue to provide market leading debt finance solutions for our clients," she says.

ANZ has improved its rankings on both securitized and non-securitized Australian dollar bonds since the beginning of the year.

Tonkin will be based in Sydney and starts her new role on 4 October.
