Citi appoints new country head in Malaysia

Sanjeev Nanavati becomes the new country officer for Malaysia and CEO of Citibank Berhad.
Citi announced yesterday that it has appointed Sanjeev Nanavati as its new Citi country officer for Malaysia and CEO of Citibank Berhad.

Nanavati is already based in Kuala Lumpur and will continue in his existing role as country head of markets and banking where he is responsible for CitiÆs corporate banking, investment banking, global transaction services, equities, fixed-income and treasury activities in Malaysia.

He succeeds Piyush Gupta, who has moved to Singapore as head of Asean markets and banking for Citi.

"I am very excited by the opportunities that lie ahead in growing CitiÆs business in Malaysia," says Nanavati. "There is strong momentum in all our business units in Malaysia and I look forward to working closely with all my colleagues and clients as we further develop our strong franchise."

Prior to joining Citi Malaysia in 2005, Nanavati was managing director and global head of Citigroup Depository Receipt Services based in New York and Hong Kong, where he oversaw all aspects of the ADR/GDR product offering.

Before joining Citi in 2001, Nanavati spent 18 years in banking working in Asia and the US.
