Barclays Corporate has hired Standard Chartered’s Tan Kah Chye as its new head of trade and working capital. Tan joins the UK-based bank after six years as transaction banking global head of corporate cash and trade at Standard Chartered where he was responsible for the expansion of the trade business.

According to Barclays Corporate, Tan will leverage his experience in Asia and Europe together with the bank’s expanding presence in the US to increase the depth and reach of its trade proposition in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in his new position. At the same time, he will help develop the bank’s trade business in Asia.

Tan has previously held several senior trade finance positions at Citi, Deutsche Bank and J.P. Morgan. John Kelting, head of product at Barclays Corporate, believes Tan’s experience will be an important factor in the bank’s long-term growth ambitions.

Barclays Corporate provides banking solutions to businesses with an annual turnover of more than £5 million ($8.3 million) in the UK. It provides lending, risk management, cash and liquidity management, trade finance and asset and sales financing services to financial institutions and multinationals globally.
