ABN Amro names Simon Wood head of FIG Asia

Wood is rejoining the Dutch bank as head of its financial institutions group across Asia, based in Hong Kong.

Simon Wood is to rejoin ABN Amro as head of its financial institutions group (FIG) across Asia, based in Hong Kong, the bank said in a statement on Friday.

The bank said the position had not existed for some time, and Wood was heading a new team created as part of its growth strategy in Asia.

Wood had been head of financial institutions investment banking Asia Pacific at BNP Paribas since 2011.

Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he held a similar role at Macquarie in Asia and, more recently, also had oversight of Europe and the US. Wood worked at ABN Amro from 2004 to 2005 as head of FIG Asia.

He began his career with an eight-year stint at Fox-Pitt, Kelton, the specialist financial institutions boutique, first in London and then in Hong Kong.

He is a British national who studied aeronautical engineering in Bristol and has been Asia-based since 2000.

“Simon is a career FIG specialist with a particular strength in the insurance sector. We are very happy to have him on board again,” said Jonathan Greenwood, ABN Amro’s global head of financial institutions.

ABN Amro has been active in Asia for more than a century and serves an international client base in sectors where the bank has a leading position, such as commodities financing, asset based lending, clearing and financial institutions.
