Rival brokers are looking to poach the British bank's remaining HFT and prime brokerage clients now it has lopped off research and high-touch trading.

Vikesh Kotecha and John Chang will head the UK bank's Asia-Pacific equities business in a newly split role, replacing Nick Wright, who retired in March.

The acquisition will cost CIMB a net $256 million and the bank says it expects 350 to 400 RBS staff to join its ranks, including more than 80 senior managers.

The potential sale will include the UK bank's cash equities, ECM, M&A and corporate finance divisions in Asia and Australia.
