Alvarez & Marsal poaches Winspear from IBM

The hire comes as the financial services firm seeks to build up its business focusing on restructuring and corporate turnarounds in China.
Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Stewart Winspear as a senior director as it seeks to expand its business in Greater China. Winspear was most recently chief financial officer at IBM Business Partners Asia-Pacific.

Alvarez & Marsal is an independent professional services firm providing restructuring and corporate advisory services with a specific focus on the turnaround of distressed assets and businesses. It currently has a business presence in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

In his new position, Winspear will be instrumental in serving clients and building the firmÆs capabilities across Greater China, according to a release.

ôAs A&M builds out its formal presence in China, and as the country moves to implement a new bankruptcy framework, Stewart will also play a key role in educating the market about the opportunities for value creation through operational performance improvement,ö says Tony Alvarez II, the firmÆs co-CEO.

Winspear brings with him more than 20 years of experience within operational leadership, consulting, finance and technology across the region. At International Business Machines (IBM), he was mainly responsible for managing the financial performance of the firmÆs Business Partners operation, which provides solutions and services for businesses across 15 countries in the region.

He was also in charge of the enhancement of IBMÆs Asia-Pacific operations to make sure they kept in line with global best practices and the companyÆs corporate governance requirements. Before joining the US IT services giant, he worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers corporate finance division, specialising in restructuring, business strategy, valuations and due diligence.
