Lehman Brothers promotes new head of equities

Sigurbjorn Thorkelsson will relocate to Tokyo as Lehman seeks to build out its equity franchise in Asia.
Lehman Brothers has appointed Sigurbjorn Thorkelsson as head of equities in Asia as it seeks to build out its equity franchise in the region. Thorkelsson was most recently the bankÆs head of European equity derivatives and convertibles.

In this newly created position, Thorkelsson will be relocated to Tokyo and report jointly to Bart McDade, the bankÆs global head of equities, and Hyung Lee, the bankÆs head of capital markets in Asia.

ôSiggiÆs broad derivatives knowledge will be indispensable as we grow our Asian equities franchise,ö says McDade.

Thorkelsson has headed the European equity derivatives and convertibles division for the past three years, overseeing trading, sales and analytics for the businesses. He joining the bank in 1992, but left between 1994 and 1998 to work for CIBC. He rejoined Lehman BrothersÆ equity derivatives group in New York in 1998, and took part in the establishment of a structured products trading group. He has since taken on a number of roles including co-head of US equity derivatives trading and head of European equity derivatives trading.

Away from Asia, the bank has also appointed Rachid Bouzouba and Philip Lynch as co-heads of European equities who will report jointly to McDade and Benoit Savoret, the bankÆs chief operating officer in Europe.

Bouzouba has been the bankÆs head of European equities trading for the past 18 months. He joined Lehman Brothers in 2003 as head of structured trading and became head of European derivatives trading in 2004.

Previously head of global finance in Europe, Lynch joined the bank in 1987 and has held various positions in New York, London and Hong Kong, including co-head of Asia-Pacific investment banking and head of equity capital markets in Europe.
