In 2002, mergers and acquisitions MA in Asia registered a sharp drop from the highs of 2001. According to Thomson Financial, up to the end of the third quarter of 2002, announced MA deals in Asia outside Japan totalled $62 billion, compared with $76 billion for the same period in 2001.
