Global business law firm Linklaters has elected Anthony Cann as new senior partner.

Cann will succeed Charles Allen-Jones, who will retire from the firm at the end of September after the completion of his term as senior partner.

“I strongly welcome Anthony Cann’s election as Linklaters’ next senior partner. During my senior partnership he has played a key part in the firm’s affairs – especially the formulation and execution of our European strategy and as head of corporate until last summer,” said Allen-Jones.

Cann will begin his five-year term as a senior partner from September 2001. His major areas of practice include public and private mergers and acquisitions, issues, joint ventures, and general corporate advice. He headed the firm’s corporate department from 1995 to 2000 and has also been the co-head of the Linklaters and Alliance M&A corporate practice group since 1998.
