New partner at DLA Piper

Ghislain de Mareuil will advise European companies operating in China, and mainland companies with interests in Europe.
DLA Piper, the Europe-China legal and business adviser, has appointed corporate specialist Ghislain de Mareuil as partner. The appointment is part of the firmÆs expansion into China as it tries to develop its business in Asia.

ôChinese companies developing their businesses in Europe are dealing with multiple jurisdictions and other legal or operational requirements. At the same time, many European companies continue to require legal and business counsel with local insights to navigate ChinaÆs changing regulatory framework,ö says Alastair da Costa, Asia managing director of DLA Piper.

De Mareuil brings experience advising European companies and organisations operating in China, and mainland companies with interests in Europe. He has advised on cross-border transactions, particularly in M&A, investment structuring and financing, restructuring, asset acquisition, disposal and divestiture. He also advises on corporate social responsibility, commercial law and international dispute resolution issues.

He also brings a strong business background, having worked as a management consultant and as a non-governmental organisation deputy coordinator, as has worked in Shanghai, Japan and Cambodia and is expected to help strengthen the firmÆs ability to assist clients operating between Europe and China.

De Mareuil is admitted as a laureate to the Paris Bar Association and holds a masters in law from Pantheon Sorbonne in Paris, and one in international business from Paris Dauphine. He is graduate of the Paris institute of political studies.
